Flagstaff AZ to Corrales NM
It takes a bit to remember all of the things you must do on
a road trip: get ice from the cooler,
find the best gas prices (Gas Guru app is a help here), remember to bring the
“right things” in form the car, pack a light overnight bag for the first night
or two.
The drive through Arizona was HOT. We are very grateful to
have a car with good AC. We drove, we
talked, we took turns driving. The only scary part of the day was when we
passed a FedEx truck that was on fire. There were several other trucks pulled
over to help, but the fire department was not yet on the scene. A sobering reminder that things can happen
out on the road. As we drove, Dick would often snap some photos of the
changing landscape. We live in a country
with so much diversity and it is fascinating how the land changes.
We have been listening to some great podcasts including some
talking about the challenging political times we are in right now. We are both very concerned about many issues,
but especially at the news of the immigrant children and parents being
separated. Patti made arrangements to go to the Families Belong Together March
on the 30th in Albuquerque.
And we have been pouring over the news online as well as on the radio
trying to keep up on what is happening.
Our hearts go out to these families.
We checked into our favorite AirBnB in Correles NM. There we were able to rest, and then were
joined by dear friends Tomi and Hank for a light dinner of salads. Perfect for a hot evening. Lots of good food and good friendship.
After they left, we had a nice time sitting out in the
cooling evening grazing out at the city of light in Albuquerque. We also enjoyed
seeing the families of quail and the jackrabbits running around the backyard.
Delightful! And time to go to bed….another buy day tomorrow. It is good to be on the road.
