July 4, 2018
Rochester, MN

Rain!!  For the first time in our travels, we experienced real rain.  With thunder crashing the rain fell in torrents, filling the street in front of the house.  We miss such thunderstorms since we rarely experience the in San Diego, even in the rainy season.  Once the rain stopped, it was time to get out and enjoy the fresh air.  We loved the many flowers that looked even brighter in the after rain light. We were a bit worried that the rain would come back and wash out the evening’s fireworks display.  But, it remained dry.

Celebrating American Independence Day in Rochester meant Mom creating quite a feast for dinner:  turkey, corn on the cob, fruit salad, homemade buns, and strawberries and angel food cake.  We had a quite day catching up with mom. As we got towards dinnertime, we were joined by Patti’s brother, Perry, his wife, Jodie, and son Matt.  (Their other son was with friends.)  Dinner was excellent and we all ate our fill.

Then around 9:00, we piled in Perry and Jodie’s car and drove a mile to the large city park where the fireworks would be fired off.  We settled in and delighted in watching the kids running around, playing with sparklers and fireworks.

The fireworks lasted 35 minutes.  The oohs, and ahs, and wows went through the crowd. Both of us snapped as many photos as we could and were very pleased to have some of them work out so well. Enjoy!
