July 5th 2018
Rochester, MN

Patti started the day meeting her dear high school friend, Randy, for breakfast. They met at a Perkins restaurant, a family place where our high school gang spent an enormous amount of time talking until late in the night and drinking their endless pots of coffee.  It is always a joy to catch up with old friends (although Randy reminded Patti that she is older than he is.)  What fun!  And they were able to reflect that they graduated 40 years ago last month. Yikes!

They had a quiet afternoon.  There was time for a short walk with the dog that included sitting on the bench dedicated to Patti's father. Dick took time to work on photos for the blog.  There was also the opportunity to enjoy time with Patti’s mom, who was preparing another great family dinner.  Joan is a wonderful cook and shows her love especially through her great cooking and baking.  Delicious.

After dinner, we drove up to the boys’ high school to watch Matt and Josh play tennis. Their high school team had an amazingly successful season coming in second in the Minnesota state tournament. It was so fun to watch them slam the ball back and forth.  They sure have come a long way since they first learned to play tennis from their grandpa when they could barely walk.  Matt will play tennis in college next fall.  Go Century!

We watched the MN Twins play baseball that evening.  Patti’s Mom is a faithful Minnesota sports fan.  She rarely misses a game, even when they are losing.  Luckily, the Twins finally won.  Yay!
