Day, 23, July 7: Bellbrook, Ohio

We were pleased to be able to have a leisurely breakfast with John and Beverly catching up on family news and our travels. It was a great luxury just to have hanging out and catching up time together.

In the late afternoon, we headed over to have dinner with nephew Brian, his wife, Laura, and kids, Aleena and Ian. Dick really enjoyed the fact that the restaurant we met with which was near their house was in the neighborhood of Oakwood where he had lived a number of years ago. We continue to have the feeling of the quick passing of time with Ian now significantly taller than Patti, and working on his conditioning for football this summer. His older sister just graduated from high school and is headed off to Miami University at the end of summer. It was so much fun to catch up on her plans to study Zoology specializing in reptiles and hear about Thai kickboxing. The time flew too by quickly.

After leaving our nice dinner, Dick drove Patti around the neighborhood, including seeing the Wright Mansion where Orville Wright lived. He was one of the Wright brothers, part of the invention of the airplane that focused in Dayton.

We drove by Dick’s old house, as well as the University of Dayton where Dick got one of his masters degrees. Then we enjoyed some delicious Ben & Jerry’s ice cream at a genuine Ben & Jerry’s ice cream shop. We also walked around the outside of Carillon Park, one of Dicks',favorite historic parks and sites in the city. He was disappointed that all of the historic buildings are now behind a fenced-in area requiring admission. Dick recalled spending many happy hours there as well as riding his bike through this beautiful parkway.

We returned back to John and Beverly‘s and sat outside, talking and swinging on their porch swing. We were both delighted at the number of lightning bugs, or you might call them, fire flies where you live. The pretty twinkling insects were guarding about the backyard. always a treat to talk late into the night. Fire flies were an extra bonus.
