Day, 22, July 6: Merriville, Indiana to Bellbrook, Ohio

Today was a fairly easy drive from northwest Indiana down through Indianapolis and ending up at Bellbrook Ohio. We encountered the heaviest truck traffic so far in today’s drive plus a heavy rain shower. It took a lot of concentration in driving to deal with all of these huge semi trucks.

We didn’t have the chance to stop at the Dairy Farms Adventure Center. This was an enormous commercial dairy farm that was set up to have visitors come and learn all about dairies,. This includes putting cows on a revolving platform hooked up to milking machines and  a calf birthing room where at least 80 calves are born every day. it was touted as agriculture tourism done right. We didn’t have time to stop though. Maybe another time.

We went through extensive wind farm with large wind turbines spread out more than 20 miles.

Dick always feels he is on familiar ground when he is back in Ohio, the state he lived in for 40 years. We headed over to the south west corner in the city of Dayton Ohio. Dick has many stories and memories of his time living in Dayton for 20 years.

We were warmly met by Dick’s brother, John and his wife, Beverly. We had a chance to sit in their backyard and admire all of the landscaping work they had been working on this spring and summer. wW were joined later by niece, Courtney and her husband, Steve. Lots of fun, reminiscing, and touching stories were told. It is always such a joy to get together with family.
