Day 20, July 4, 2025 Rockford IL to Rochester MN

Up early and then drove  near Madison Wisconsin to have breakfast with our friends, Melinda and Kathy. Patti and Melinda have been friends since they were about 14 years old. It’s always nice to be able to see them. We were pleased to be able to see their snazzy new handicapped conversion minivan. It was beautiful.

On the way driving to their place we went through a very severe rainstorm. At times, the visibility was so low that many drivers had pulled over to the side with their flashers on. Dick drove very slowly, following the tail lights of the people in front of us. It was a very intense storm and we were glad when we finally pulled out of it into bright sunshine.

Mid-afternoon, we arrived in Rochester Minnesota. This is where Patti grew up and her mom and brother Perry and sister Paula and some of their kids still live. Patti’s mom, Joan, was waiting for us with open arms. We will now spend the next nine days here and look forward to some good family time together.

Dinner was a good Midwestern Fourth of July meal of corn on the cob, ham, scalloped potatoes, fruit salad, and Patti’s mom’s famous mint cake.

As it was getting dark, Patti and Dick joined Paula, Perry, and Jodie to go to listen to a band at one of the local large parks. Everyone was having a fun time rocking to the music. And then they joined thousands of other spectators ooing and ahhing over a nice 35 minute fireworks display. Happy Fourth of July everybody!
