Up and going early. We had a lot of ground to cover to get to Chicago. We planned to meet our friend, Laura, but she was ill. So instead, we kept the plan to go to Chicago Botanic Garden, which Laura had suggested. We spent two hours battling terrible traffic to get not very far in Chicago . We both agreed we were very grateful that we didn’t have to struggle with that traffic all the time. At times we were at a dead stop. No fun!
When we got to the Garden, it was hot but beautiful. The first thing we did was take a tram ride that took us all around this beautiful garden. The garden was built in the 1970s on swamp land and it has developed over the years with different gardens on a number of different islands.
We wondered through quite a few of the gardens. We especially enjoyed the giant spool of thread.
There were also some new things in plants from around the world. There were a lot of beautiful, beautiful flowers. Some, were familiar and then some new to us. We were so happy to be able to walk around and to take pictures of these wonderful plants, with so many of them in full bloom. Anytime we get a chance to be in a beautiful garden like this makes us happy, and especially today after struggling with traffic. It was such an oasis to be there and enjoy ourselves after a little over two hours. Eventually though we needed to get in the car and get down the road for our evening.
Our hotel for the night was next door to a fun, Restaurant Thunder Bay Grill. We like the moose in front of it. A fun server helped us to find interesting food for a light dinner.
Then we hung out, worked on the photos and the blog, and finally off to bed.
