Stockholm is located on a series of islands protected by nearly a hundred miles of additional islands. Rather than waking up already in the port, we were still winding our way along the often narrow channels. It was a beautiful blue sky day so the last time before the port were beautiful.
We arrived at
Stockholm both still feeling quite under the weather with a cold. By this time
Dick was also sick. We made a decision to try one of the hop-on-hop-off buses
that operate throughout any of the parts. This allowed around to our narrated
overview of the city perfect. We were pretty low energy, so we were happy to
passively soak in some of the lovely city on islands: Stockholm.
We were much less
concerned about trying to cram everything in knowing another two weeks we would
be back for a couple of nice nights on our own staying in the old town
Stockholm.
The main goal of
the day was to get to the main train station, and purchase train tickets from Umea, Sweden down to Stockholm on July 15th. This will follow a visit with friends in
northern Sweden. We decided to do this in person rather than try to do it
online. As it turned out, it was pretty complicated and we were glad to pay a
small fee to have the person help figure out our tickets and get it printed. Success.
We completed our
hop-on-hop-off (with little hopping!) and then were back at the ship. We asked
ourselves the question if we had enough energy to go do any of the tourist
events onboard or off. The answer: no. Instead we rested for a bit and then were
pleased to go out on the deck and listen to a goodly amount of been narration
by the tour people about the Swedish arpeggio islands. There are an amazing
amount of islands, and it was really a delight to sit out on the deck. There
are many little small villages and fishing hearts and summer cottages. It was
beautiful.! Oh, then it was after dinner and to bed early again.
