We woke up in our lovely duplex, and Patti went outside to pick fresh raspberries from the yard. Delicious!
Then, we drove a few blocks over to a beautiful lake. Minneapolis has a number of lakes that are changed together in walking and biking paths. This lake had formally been called after a racist historical figure. A few years ago, the city decided to rename it a Native American name, Bde Maka Ska, which means White Earth Lake. We enjoyed the early morning freshness of the air and the sunshine. The place was busy with walkers and bikers. We especially enjoyed some of the decorations in the cement that had Native American symbols and words. This was in honor of the Native American village that had been on the banks of this lake. This is such a fine location and it brought fine fond memories to both of us of times that we had individually and together been around these lakes.
Then, we headed off to have breakfast with two of Patti‘s friends from seminary: Ruth and Phyliss. We haven’t seen them for a couple of years and we had lovely times catching up and telling tales of what has happened in our lives in the recent times. They had been through some health challenges and it was important to hear some of those tales. It was so nice to have the time and see their dog. We were able to sit outside and enjoy fresh fruit, including the berries that Patti had picked. So nice to see dear old friends.
Then, we had lunch with a friend Kathryn and her partner, Kent. We had known Kathryn many years ago in the same dance class where Dick and Patti had met. We had intense lovely times together back then, but hadn’t seen each other in person for probably 30 years. There were many stories to tell to catch up on each others careers and histories. We so enjoyed meeting Kent who we hadn’t met before. And, to see Kathryn it was as though no time had passed since we saw each other. Those kind of friends are so special.
Then back to our apartment where we were able to settle in for a good afternoon nap and the lovely pork chop dinner that Dick made. It’s nice to be back in the Twin Cities.
