Day 27: July 11, 2025 Rochester, Minnesota

Our time with family in Minnesota is coming to an end.  The 11th was a lazy day. We met nephew, Isaac, for lunch. Always good to have special time with nieces and nephews.  Our niece, Maria, came over and she and Patti went on a nice walk. It actually turned into a bit of adventure for Marie and Patti going up in the wooded park near Patti's mom‘s house. Patti brought bags for them to pick black raspberries which grow wild in Quarry Hill Park.  Patti had picked berries for years when she was growing up. As they picked the raspberries, the mosquitoes came in  swarms, and it started raining. Maria was such a good sport announcing it was all part of an adventure. They did this for quite a while until we were soaked and Maria was particularly eaten by bugs. But it was still pretty darn fun. It was a dreary, on and off sprinkly day.  Patti's mom is very committed to feeding birds and squirrels and was out at her feeder filling it up this morning.

In the evening, we went up to the volleyball center and watched Maria and Isaac play with lots of friends in a community open volleyball time. We were struck seeing nearly a dozen courts filled with young adults playing volleyball and enjoying a really fun time together on a Friday evening. Very wholesome and fun to especially watch Maria and Isaac work together as a team. When Dick complemented Maria on being good at setting Isaac up for his hammer spikes of the ball, Maria replied, "I’ve been setting him up my whole life". All four of the Winter kids spent a lot of time playing volleyball together when they were growing up at their summer lake cabin. And as adults are all still very skilled players. Fun to watch and fun to take photos.  We all enjoyed ourselves.

  1. Hi Patti and Dick
The volleyball game looked fun and it looked too that that Patti’s mom was enjoying herself. You certainly have been successful at doing nice things for during your visit.
