Day 34, July 17, 2024: Galway, Ireland to London, England

We had an easy morning of one more nice breakfast and finishing up some blogging and pictures. There was enough time for some chatting with our hosts, as well as some other travelers.  Gallway had been a fine place for us to settle in and enjoy Ireland.  We are glad that we had enough time here.  We would recommend it as a great home base to see some of the best of the Western part of the island.

Then, we said goodbye to our flat in Galway. Patti ran to the grocery store for some lunch to take along to the airport. It was an easy 10 minute walk to the bus station where we took the bus for two hours to the Shannon Airport. It made a lot of local stops, but that was fine. There we spent a couple of more hours before we caught our flight to London. It is a bit frustrating that it would be about 11 hours from when we woke up until we arrived at our final destination, although the flight was just over one hour.

We had a big surprise when we arrived in Shannon airport. We decided to fly out of this a smaller airport than Dublin, but when we arrived, it was almost as though the airport were empty. We had a terrible time trying to figure out where we went to check in. And once we checked in, dropped off our baggage and then we got up to the security parts. We were almost alone in a whole large security area, except for security agents. It was almost eerie. When we commented on this, one of the agents told us that they had heard we were coming and so they prepared it for us, especially. Patti's suitcase got pulled aside from moment to look at bottles of cough syrup, which were quickly passed through. The cough continues on. This is getting old, but what are you going to do?

We used some of the extra time at the airport to work on photo and the text for the blog. Patti also was able to go online and get tour ticket for us to go visit the Shakespeare Globe Theater for a tour in a couple of dayz. That should be really fun.

We had a little bit of a delay for our flight because the airplane that we were going to fly on was late coming in. But we definitely used the time well. Eventually, we were off on the plane.

In London, we got through customs easily and then began our journey to south of London to to the part of town where we would spend the next five nights exploring London. This was our first chance to use “The Tube” and we managed the subways quite well with only about an hour ride before we got to our home for the next five nights.

We chose a place south of London, Brixton. We were happy to check into the beautiful apartment through Airbnb hosted by a nice couple, Corey and  Blu. They met us and welcomed us to their home. It is going to be a lovely place for us to finish out our British Isles tour. Both men are very friendly and interesting and we will have good conversations over these next several days.

We went to bed fairly early, because the London portion of our time had begun. We were ready.
