Up early and packed. We were pleased to be able to have breakfast at home with our niece, Amanda, and her new fiancĂ©, AJ. Amanda was gone for the weekend so we didn’t get a chance to see her earlier, but we were very interested in getting to know AJ better. Welcome to the family AJ. We will enjoy getting to know you throughout these future years. Mandy, a good choice. It’s nice to see you so happy.
Then, we headed east still driving, driving, driving in Texas, crossing Louisiana, and eventually getting as far as Meridian, Mississippi. The weather is hot, hot hot humid, humid, humid. We drove about nine hours today. The landscape changed again. And we crossed the mighty Mississippi. So again we’re so grateful for our air-conditioning and to be able to move our home away from home down the road. We hit a massive traffic jam, which was the result of a terrible accident and fire which cost us an additional half hour. We hope that all involved were okay.
We had heard about Buc-ee's, a convenience store on steroids so we had to stop at one. They are primarily inTexas but elsewhere in the south and one in Colorado. The store itself is huge and there were over 60 pumps in front of the one we stopped for a fill-up. Texas likes things BIG!
Pro tip when you’re doing long drives: when it’s really hot outside, a chocolate frosty from Wendy’s always does the trick. We’ve had these three different times so far on this trip and always makes us happy.
We needed to make some good time today because tomorrow we head into Atlanta, Georgia
Buc-ee’s is an institution! They have a near cult like following on social media. If you ever stop again get the brisket sandwich.
