July 19 Day 36 Copenhagen

We had a nice evening easy morning with Lars and Julie and then the four of us took the bus off to meet with more of Lars's family for lunch. We went to Tivolihallen , in old-school smørbor restaurant.

Is great to see Lars’ dad, Kjeld, again, as well as meet Lars’ sister and niece and nephew. Yes, we have a lot of family in Denmark! The conversation was fun, the food was excellent. We have had a chance to have a lot of great home-cooked and restaurant food while we’ve been in Denmark.

We had a chance to take a taste of what was known as “old cheese”. This was eaten smothered in rum. It tasted pretty good. They were all entertained and surprised that we had tried the smelly fish in Sweden.

The meal was topped off with the opportunity to help ourselves to the Danish candy in the box. They were all kinds of interesting flavors of candy. Delicious.

After saying goodbye to some of the family, the four of us did a couple errands and walked around in the old streets of Copenhagen. The old buildings and cobblestones had Seen a lot of interesting changes throughout the years.

We stopped off so that Patti could get her picture taken with the Hans Christian Andersen statue near The City Hall. We had to wade our way through the Asian tourists who were happily snapping pictures. A nice photo and then we tried the QR scan code and were surprised to have each see Anderson call our cousin Lars on his cell phone. The things they can do with technology these days!

Late that evening Dick, Lars and Patti went and met our friend Filip at the traditional Danish pub where the two of them have played music often in their band Manne. We had what could only be described as a very cozy evening together very hyggelig in danish. Good friends, some alcohol, candles and we had some popcorn. We had a great evening together. Philip had twice come along with Lars to California for Old Danish Days In Solvang California so we enjoyed catching up on what his adventures had brought him since leaving the band. Just a really easy evening together. What fun.
